The Hornby Railways Collector's Association is celebrating its 40th anniversary by exhibiting some its collections at Ickworth House this Father’s Day, June 21 2009.
The organisation, which was established to stimulate interest and communication among collectors and operators of Hornby Trains, will be evoking special childhood memories of collecting and playing with this classic toy through some stunning railway layouts.
Hornby was at first a trade name for the railway productions of Meccano Ltd, another nostalgic favourite, and were based in Liverpool. They released their first train, a clockwork 0 gauge (1:48 scale), in 1920.
Clockwork remained the mainstay of the Hornby 0 gauge for the next 17 years, and in 1938 introduced its 00 gauge range under the name Hornby Duplo. After the Second World War, Hornby ceased to produce clockwork trains on its 00 gauge range and moved over to electric models.
Visitors will be able to meet members of the Hornby Railways Collector's Association in Ickworth West Wing, ask them questions about their collections and their own and discover more about this iconic range of toys.
