The exhibition, which was put together by scooter enthusiast Robin Spalding, showcases all 42 types of scooter manufactured in Britain during the 1950s and 1960s, displayed alongside examples of clothing, furniture and advertising from the period.
“We are absolutely thrilled with Robin’s collection, and seeing it all laid out in one place is quite spectacular,” says Gary Hall, the Chief Executive of the museum.
“Visitors are already flocking to the museum to see the scooters – they are fascinated by some of the weird and wonderful machines on display.
“While many people are familiar with the popular Italian models, they have been surprised and delighted by this collection of British Machines.”
The scooters lead the way to an existing collection of more than 240 cars and commercial vehicles, 94 motorcycles, 200 cycles and 25,000 models in an area the size of three football pitches.
- ScooterMania is at Coventry Transport Museum until March 3 2013.
