A steam crazy six-year-old has been appointed the Director of Fun at the National Railway Museum.
Sam Pointon saw that current Director, Andrew Scott, was due to retire and quickly posted off his application to the Museum to offer his services as the new Director.
Museum bosses were so impressed with Sam's application that, although they couldn’t make him Director of the whole museum, they have appointed him Director of Fun.
Sam's role will be to make sure the Museum continues to offer fun and excitement for younger visitors.
"Sam was absolutely delighted when he received the letter from the National Railway Museum appointing him ‘Director of Fun’," said Sam's father, Robin Pointon. "He has always been a huge fan of trains so obviously the NRM has always been his number one choice for a day out.
"To visit the NRM as a VIP has been such a great day for Sam - and the whole family particularly enjoyed the production of The Railway Children."
Sam is taking his new appointment particularly seriously and is already canvassing the public for suggestions on how the NRM could be made more fun. If you have a suggestion for Sam and his team then you can fill in the online comments card.
"Sam's letter of application was a real delight to read, so it was a pleasure to be able to offer him the position of 'Director of Fun'," said Andrew Scott, Director of the NRM.
"It's always fantastic to see such young children with a real passion for trains just like I had when I was a boy."
