The archive of Sir Michael Redgrave, one of the 20th century's great classical actors who died in 1985, has been acquired by the Theatre Museum, with the help of grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Friends of the National Libraries.

It consists of 41 metres of photographs, diaries, recordings, theatrical and business papers, manuscripts, playtexts and correspondence, and spans four generations from Sir Michael's travelling player parents, his wife Rachel Kempson, their children (Vanessa, Corin and Lynn) and grandchildren (Jemma Redgrave and Joely and Natasha Richardson).
The Theatre Museum has also acquired the archive of The Place, headquarters of the Contemporary Dance School and London's leading theatre for modern dance performance.
