In a Twitter universe where musicians give out gig tickets and celebrities dish down gossip, the Georgian Group has announced what some might see as one of the best offers of the year.
The campaigning force formed 73 years ago to protect historic 18th and 19th century buildings and landscapes is inviting fans to follow in the footsteps of Sir John Betjeman and Robert Byron by joining the alliance for free in February.
"Now is a great time to join," argued Group Director Robert Bargery, pushing the "handsome" colour magazine, special offers and visits to posh private houses the 3,300 members receive.
As well as saving the standard £35 annual membership fee, enlistees will be able to consult a reference library in their own clubroom at the Group's Fitzroy Square headquarters in London and have a voice on thousands of planning applications each year.
Known for their educated and passionate views on developments as divisive as PVC windows ("an aesthetic and environmental nightmare", according to their nationwide appeal on the issue), The Georgian Group is often consulted on potential changes to buildings from the period.
It became a National Amenity Society in 1971, and works with regional caseworkers and volunteers to advise on the care and upkeep of Georgian buildings across the country.
To take part, follow the Georgian Group on Twitter, then email "FF claim" to office@georgiangroup.org.uk giving your Twitter username and name and address.
