Five historic churches and a cathedral in Scotland will undergo major repair works thanks to a funding package from Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland.
A total of more than £1m in grants have been pledged by the organisations. The money will be used to carry out urgent and essential work on the buildings, which are situated in a range of locations across Scotland.
St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church sits on an exposed cliff-side in Gourock, and has been damaged by exposure to the elements. It will be partly re-roofed using the new funding. Brechin Cathedral, near to the heart of Brechin town centre, needs work to counter the effects of wet and dry rot.

In Dundee, the funds will preserve the interior of the gothic hillside church of St Salvador's (top of page), and further up the coast the Sacred Heart RC Church in Aberdeen will be restored.
Close to the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site of New Lanark, St Mary's Church will also benefit. As part of its restoration, a learning pack and DVD will be produced for schools to show pupils the different stages of conservation work.
Critical repairs will also be carried out on the roof and gables of Innerleithen Cathedral, making the building structurally sound again.
