The Trust behind a wide-reaching visitor centre at Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol’s Grade I-listed, River Avon-spanning icon built under designs by Isambard Kingdom Brunel nearly 150 years ago, have asked the public for memories and volunteering support as part of the proposed exhibitions and activities programme.

Having been awarded £595,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund at the end of 2012, organisers will create an impressive Heritage and Learning Centre on the Leigh Woods side of the Bridge, with construction work expected to begin in late 2013 ahead of a completion date coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the site in December 2014.

As well as modern facilities, it will serve several local schools and academic institutions. Six exhibition themes will encompass its engineering, ecological and geological significance.
