Exhibition preview: Memories of Film and Cinema, Walsall Museum, Walsall, until February 2 2013
Fuelled by Saturday afternoon trips to the cinema as a nipper, Broxwich chap Ian Edwards has collected around 40 vintage cinema machines dating back to the early 20th century, ranging from a cinefilm projector to film reels in full working order.

A fellow new exhibit goes even further back. A mystery silver finger-ring was detected by local metal detectorists Craig and Bettina Porter on farmland between Walsall and Aldridge.
Crosses and punches can be made out in the distorted crags and nicks of the 12th century work, which was acquired by the museum following careful inspection at the British Museum.
