In a bid to immortalise the achievements of Scottish women in fabric, stitch extraordinaires Tina Gravatt and Loraine Sullivan have spent the past year embroiled in quilts.
The results are more than 40 works in patchwork, embroidery and embellishments, ranging from 24 square inch miniatures to a sprawling tapestry, depicting names as illustrious as Mary Queen of Scots, St Margaret and 19th century social firecracker Fanny Wright.

“It is a pleasure to see the history of Scottish women so beautifully stitched,” observes Elspeth King, the Director of the Stirling Smith who has written a few works on Scottish women herself.
“The sewing and patch-working of life histories is not often done in a Scottish context. I hope that this exhibition will inspire other needle workers and create more interest in the neglected subject of women’s history.”
