Inspired by Stonehenge, Wiltshire Heritage Museum's paean to the most famous megalithic monument in the world and the memorabilia it has inspired continues to grow.
The latest timely offering, joining the picture discs, tea towels, solstice press passes and various bits of pagan paraphernalia, is the new Spinal Tap CD, Back from the Dead – added on the eve of the group's Saturday night appearance at Glastonbury Festival.
Featuring the famous spoof rock band's classic song Stonehenge, the CD was installed by exhibition guest curator and TV archaeologist Julian Richards and joins a Stonehenge-shaped Spinal Tap picture disc from the eponymous spoof rock movie.
Richards is a self-confessed Stonehenge fanatic (and Spinal Tap fan), putting together the exhibition largely from a remarkable haul of personally collected items ranging from tasteful snow shakers to tasteless crockery.
Visitors to the exhibition can vote for the item they consider to be in the worst possible taste.
Julian Richards will be presenting a lecture, Souvenirs of Stonehenge, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, at Devizes Town Hall on July 18 at 2.30pm. "It should be a very lively talk presenting a whole new insight into the great British icon that is Stonehenge," said David Dawson, Director at Wiltshire Heritage Museum.
The Museum's Summer Family Day on August 2 will also have events and activities linked to Stonehenge.
Inspired by Stonehenge runs at Wiltshire Heritage Museum until September 20 2009. Spinal Tap's current tour takes them to Glastonbury Festival on Saturday June 27 and Wembley Arena on Tuesday June 30.
