The educational play area at the Ice Age caves attraction on the Derbyshire Nottinghamshire border features tactile Ice Age animal sculptures carefully designed so that parents can sit and relax while their children play close by.
Designed to fire a child's imagination and invoke what it was like living in the Ice Age, the playful sculptures are also aimed at a wide range of ages and abilities.
A new fire pit in the outdoor classroom area will also provide opportunities to create the light and smells from the Ice Age, while the reconstruction of a mammoth bone shelter, imitating the bone shelters found on archaeological sites, will be used for storytelling and dramatized activity.
The new features are due to be completed by the end of August and launched in September 2012.
