Key artists and exhibits
- The museum not only has a collection of working stationary steam engines but also vibrant displays using real artefacts from the past together with interactive hands-on exhibits. Permanent exhibitions include the science and history of public health in Leicester, light and optical science and a nostalgic look at the history of the city's tram system.
Leicester’s Vintage Festival
This two day event celebrates our past- with the sights and sounds of steam and vintage vehicles along with live music, craft stalls and a ride on the museum’s narrow gauge railway behind “Lenny” our steam engine. Visitors are welcome to wear period costume, be it Victorian to 1960s hippies. Throughout the weekend the massive beam engines will be operating in turn, culminating at 3.30pm when three of the Gimson beam engines will be in steam together, possibly the only place in the world where such a wonder can be seen. The LMTA café will be open both days serving refreshments.
