Temporary exhibitions and regular activities make the Manor House Museum a lively and vibrant place to visit. Come along to explore Kettering's history and find out what makes the town unique. Covering the history of the Borough, the Museum is packed with fascinating objects including archaeology, natural history, geology, and costume.

Children's craft activities take place during the school holidays and historical themed lunchtime talks take place regularly at the neighbouring Alfred East Art Gallery.

Our education service for schools, community groups and others, delivers sessions that involve children in hands-on and active learning, covering many different areas of the curriculum.

The museum shop is well-known for its excellent range of educational and fun gift items related to the themes of the museum and more. It's the perfect place to buy a unique treat.

Please note the museum is closed on Sundays, Mondays and Bank Holidays

The museum collects only those items, which were made or used within the geographical area of Kettering Borough for its permanent collections. The current size of the collections is thought to total circa 20,000 artefacts.

Access to the Collections:
The Museum collections are not all on display at the same time. There are far too many items to fit in the building!

Some of the Museum’s collections can be accessed for research purposes on request. Please contact the Museum and Gallery for further details. At least one month's notice is required for this request.

Teasmaid Invention

Whirrs Cogs & Thingamabobs!

Looking at gadgets, inventions and labour saving devices from yesteryear, the display consists of many curious objects including a doughnut jam filler (1920), a clockwork burglar alarm (1900) and a skirt lifter (1880)!

Northampton Open Studio Trails (NOST)

During the month of September artists invite you into their studios to witness first hand the inspiration and motivation which drives them to create. Step inside a pottery studio, discuss carving with a stonemason or watch demonstrations of painting, printmaking and traditional crafts.
The Alfred East Art Gallery will be hosting the Central Exhibition. This is a great place to see examples of participating artists' work in one room and it is hoped that the exhibition will inspire visitors to get out and about to follow trails of their choice.

Vanessa Stone Art

Paper Cutting Workshop with Vanessa Stone

  • 26 September 2015 10am-4pm

Vanessa will guide you by teaching you the basics and following onto more complex image-making which will result in you taking home a finished paper cut piece of your own, along with several experimental examples.
The art that you will make will be made with craft knives, scissors, and cutting mats and working with black and coloured papers. Vanessa will also provide resource packs about other paper artists to look at and further approaches to try after the workshop to extend your individual experimentation.
