Light and Line Polly Binns and Anne Morrell
Two leading figures in the field of art textiles show their work together for the first time, in an exhibition that explores the common threads uniting their practice, as well as their wider contribution to contemporary textile history.
Both artists use stitch as structural and mark-making components in the development of their images and ideas. Both share a fascination with the light and texture of landscape: Polly has a long-held interest in the North Norfolk coastline and Anne is inspired by the contrasting landscapes of India and her own back garden in Cheshire.
Light and Line is a Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery touring exhibition, funded by Arts Council England through the National Lottery.

SPOTLIGHT: Jewellery from Pearls to Plastic
An Egyptian glass bead necklace, a Roman hair pin, an Anglo Saxon bronze brooch and a Medieval ring
cut steel buckles and buttons, a Viking period brooch-pin decorated with enamel and a Spanish pendant of gold and emeralds
a pair of earrings made from human hair, Italian cameos cut from shell, gold filigree earrings made in India and a modern brooch in vibrant colours made of acrylic. These are some of the fabulous treasures from the museum's collection of jewellery, which will be the focus of this Spotlight display. Many of the pieces tell of journeys through life - of love and fidelity, of status and fashion, of travel and souvenirs, of our beliefs and of death and of mourning.

Universal Roots Exhibition
The Universal Roots Steering Group have collaborated with museum staff to work with culturally diverse groups of volunteer learners who have participated in a programme of training and creative workshops.
Volunteers have gained a number of new skills in research, exhibition design, events planning and marketing. The workshops have enabled them to share their heritage, life experiences, memories and creativity to create three exhibitions and an events programme inspired by a unique collection of historical shoes and the journeys of people who have travelled from around the world to live in Nottingham.
Artists, museum professionals and a storyteller have worked with volunteer learners who have moved to Nottingham from near and far. Their journeys and their stories have been gathered and uniquely, they have helped to curate the exhibition which will include photography, video-art, voice recordings and, of course, shoes.
The Boots and Routes exhibitions will be at Nottingham Castle from 21 March to the 20 October 2013 and at The Yard Gallery (next to Wollaton Hall) from 29 March to the 2 June 2013. If you're new to Nottingham, this is the ideal opportunity to discover two of Nottingham's most beautiful visitor spaces.
