A 15th century manor house, once the home of Shakespeare's granddaughter, Elizabeth Bernard, who is buried in the nearby church. It is now a museum including the history of the house.

Have your artwork exhibited in a beautiful grade 1 listed building surrounded by Abington Park. This is an open exhibition for all Northamptonshire artists to submit their work.

If you would like to enter, application forms are available from Northampton Museum & Art Gallery, Guildhall Road, Northampton, NN1 1DP or from the website http://www.northampton.gov.uk/museumexhibitions. Closing date for entries is 7 April 2013.

Abington and the Last of the Shakespeares

A major new exhibition about the life of Abington Park Museum- its history as a manor house and home of the last ancestor of William Shakespeare, as an asylum and its most recent transformation into a well-loved museum.

Nasty Northampton Family Fun Day

10 August 2013

Celebrate Northampton’s past; naughty, nice and nasty with plenty of interactive fun for all the family. The day will include a host of opportunities to learn about life in Northampton in the past through hand-on activities. Have a go in the stocks, make a pomander to stave off the plague, visit the medieval doctor for some gruesome and weird remedies and get a medieval makeover (boils included!)

Facilitated session: This session explores the every day lives of the Tudors, the differences between the rich and poor and the lives and impacts of Tudor monarchs. Utilising Tudor portraits, object handling, open discussion and role-play.

Looking at portraits

Facilitated session: This session enables students to discuss and question portraits on display at0 the Museum. Through looking at the composition of the painting, they will be able to record and analyse their findings in a variety of ways, learning how to use a portrait as a piece of historical evidence.

Second World War Evacuee

Facilitated or teacher led session: Using authentic objects we find out what it was like to be an evacuee, then write a letter home to parents blitzed in London.

Facilitated session: We have a wide variety of toys for you to choose from including a zoetrope, egg and cup, a 1950s Rupert the Bear and a Javanese rod puppet. We look at materials and how toys have changed through time.

Victorian Schoolroom

Facilitated session: Experience the strict regime of Victorian schooling. Children will take part in an exercise drill, use slate pencils and slates and do work towards achieving the school medal.
