Who knew the link between Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr and a Chester studio? Cheshire is in for a chuckle

Ricky Gervais takes a break on the set of Derek, Stephen Fry relaxes at the Q.I. Christmas party, Alan Carr high-kicks in front of a 21,000-strong MEN Arena crowd and Micky Rooney plays for laughs in Liverpool.

These are the star sitters of Andy Hollingworth, a Chester-based photographer who, for the past nine years, has become the preferred portrayer for a clutch of comedians.

Hollingworth’s works are about to go on show at the Grosvenor Museum in his native Chester, where the likes of Rhod Gilbert, Johnny Vegas and Sarah Millican – “he’s awesome, and I normally only use that when talking about pudding,” she says – have visited his studio for important promotional photos.

The artist will give monthly guided tours during the exhibition’s run, answering questions on a cast running from Eddie Izzard to Bill Bailey.

  • Reverse Angle: Andy Hollingworth Portraits 2005-2014 runs from February 1 - May 11 2014.
