Exhibition Preview - Secret City at the Michael Hoppen Gallery until January January 12, 2009.
Vintage and contemporary images of urban life feature in The Secret City Exhibition at the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London.
Rare images by Robert Doisneau documenting his 60-year love affair with Paris and images from Jason Langer’s 10-year retrospective will be displayed side by side showing two very different perspectives on a city theme.
Doisneau’s name and images are now synonymous with Parisian street life in the 40’s and 50’s and he was able to capture the ordinary and make it extraordinary.
His acute awareness as to how his camera could capture a moment of emotion still informs advertising and magazine content today, and his empathy and understanding of urban life created some of the most iconic photo-story images taken in the 20th Century.

Langer’s photographs capture glimpses of modern urban life in New York, London and Paris leaving the viewer to come up with their own background story and meaning
The photographer said, “That people prefer to create their own story and find their own meaning, instead of having it spelled out for them.”
Jason has been profiled by a number of major magazines and his work has appeared in titles including Time, Vanity Fair and Life.
The exhibition will run until January 12, 2009 and further details can be found at www.michaelhoppengallery.com
