London's Photographers' Gallery has announced its plans to relocate in central London as part of its campaign for a bigger and better photography gallery for the capital.
Doors will close at the gallery's building in Great Newport Street Soho on Sunday November 16 at 6pm. The gallery will then open to the public on Saturday December 6 at 16 - 18 Ramillies Street, just two minutes from Oxfrod Circus tube.
The new building is being refurbished with three floors due to be open to the public. The ground floor will have the main public entrance and a project space, the first floor will house the cafe, print sales and bookshop, the second floor will be the main gallery.
"Our success in establishing photography as a recognised art form and introducing a generation of visitors to the most important names in photography has resulted in a huge growth in demand for our activities," said Brett Rogers, Director of the Photographers' Gallery. "We have simply outgrown our current premises."

Brett Rogers is now leading a campaign to deliver a major photography gallery for London that will open at the 16 - 18 Ramillies Street site in 2011. This will see the gallery expand, eventually ranging over six floors and housing a more ambitious exhibitions and education programme.
"Our imminent move to the Ramillies Street building means the gallery can continue in all its activities and we can simultaneously complete our campaign for 2011," added Ms Rogers.
The gallery will open in its new location with an exhibition called The Westerns, featuring the large scale photos of American photographer Katy Grannan and another display of archive photography exploring the vibrancy of the Soho area called Soho Nights.
