Karen Ingham ushers you inside her Wonder Chamber at the Ffotogallery in Penarth

Exhibition: Karen Ingham – Wonder Chamber, Ffotogallery, Penarth, until April 14 2012

Born in England, variously raised in Norway, the US and Germany and now based in Wales, you might expect photographer Karen Ingham to have a keenly-developed sense of intrigue about the world around her.

So based on Wunderkammer – a Wonder Chamber which strived to create some sort of order out of the chaos of nature by introducing a standard classification system for the oft-bizarre carousel held in 19th century museums – this show brings together a decade of her work in one neat solo show embracing science, museology and art.

Ingham’s idea is to toy and tease with the way objects are collected and displayed, enthused by early scientific theories but embellished by technology and digital imagery.

Part of a project with Ffotogallery and Swansea Metropolitan University, the results combine the playfulness of the imagination with the sure-footed resolve of physics and mathematics.
