The shortlist for the 15th annual Deutsche Börse Photography Prize has been announced in an exhibition to be shown at the Ambika P3 space in April. Judged by a panel headed by Photographers’ Gallery Director Brett Rogers, it offers a £30,000 award to the artist who made the greatest contribution to the medium between October 2009 and September 2010...
Elad Lassry makes the last four courtesy of his exhibition at Kunsthalle Zürich last February. “His work plays with ideas of authorship, originality and appropriation through the innovative use of photography and film,” says Rogers.
Thomas Demand is nominated for his exhibition, Nationalgalerie,
at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Belin. “His clear yet strangely enigmatic
constructed images explore German history since 1945,” says Rogers.
American Roe Ethridge has made the cut for his solo show at Les Recontres d'Arles Photography in 2010. “Roe blurs the commercial with the editorial to create a new sense of Americana,” says Rogers.
Jim Goldberg’s show at the Photographer’s Gallery, held between October 2009 and January 2010, is also on the shortlist. “Open See continues his experimental approach to storytelling, combining image and text to document the plight of refugees and immigrants to Europe,” observes Rogers.
Exhibition runs April 2-30 2011. The winner will be announced on April 26.
