Mike Irvine, Head of Davy NI and Mary Trainor, Director of Arts and Business Northern Ireland, announce the call for entries for the Davy Portrait Awards 2010

The deadline is fast approaching for Northern Ireland's newest portrait prize, the 2010 Davy Portrait Awards.

Worth £10,000 (€11,750), the award is open to portrait artists based in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland as well as Irish artists based across the UK, who focus on traditional and non-digital media.

Last year's inaugural Awards attracted more than 330 entries, with the main prize going to Joe Dunne for "Portrait of Cara", starring his teenage daughter.

The last day of open submissions falls on October 30 2009, with the winner announced at a prize-giving ceremony in Belfast in February 2010. Some of the finest entries will also be showcased in an exhibition at the Naughton Gallery, Belfast in February 2010, and at Farmleigh House, Dublin in May 2010.

Additional information and entry forms are available on the Davy Portrait Awards website.
