Exhibition: The Essence of Beauty: 500 Years of Italian Art, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow, until August 12 2012

The Kelvingrove's showcase of the best Italian Art from museums across Glasgow features more than 40 fine paintings, dating from the late 14th to the 19th centuries in a series of rarely-seen, chronologically themed displays.

The gallery has gone to special lengths to conserve these artworks, including the frames that contain them, giving them a fresh spin for their public reappearance.

The exhibition also includes decorated arms and armour, Venetian glass and ceramics and displays of fine sculpture in order to provide a broader historical and artistic context for the paintings.

  • Open 10am-5pm (11am-5pm Friday and Sunday). Admission £5/£3.
