Claire Jackson shows breadth of Leicester faiths at city's New Walk Museum and Art Gallery

With a style perfected at Oxford University’s Ruskin School and showcased at the National Portrait Gallery, Leicestershire artist Claire Jackson is a portrait perfectionist.

In this display she celebrates the diversity of faiths and cultures across Leicester, including its Lord Mayor Abdul Osman, Rabbi Shmuli Pink, Kelsang Nyingpo (proclaiming compassion and wisdom) and the splendidly-dressed Resham Singh Sandhu, looking every inch the High Sheriff of Leicestershire. 

Jackson usually works in oil, but is equally skilled with pastel, charcoal and graphite. And her characters, portrayed in real life over lengthy sittings, testify to the diversity of a modern city.
