According to the venue, more than 130,000 people have stomped in to see it, helping to boost visitor numbers by 67 per cent compared to the same period last year.
“It has been fantastic that so many people have come to the gallery to see this painting,” reflects Laura Turner, the gallery’s Curator of Art. “It is a breathtaking piece of art and we hope that those who have not managed to make a visit will do so in the next week or so before the exhibition closes.”
Bigger Trees Near Warter (or Peinture Sur Le Motif Pour Le Nouvel Age Post-Photograpique 2007, as Hockney subtitled it) is off to Hull’s Ferens Gallery after this weekend (June 11 2011), touring as part of Art in Yorkshire, a year-long visual arts drive which will take works from the Tate collection to 19 galleries across the county.
With 50 canvasses to assemble for Hockney’s piece alone, the region’s curators are in for a treat.
