Caitlin Moran, India Knight and Shami Chakrabarti are among the contributors to the catalogue for this show, perhaps inspired by the powerful female muses of history and art Alice Instone adores.
Sexually-charged and part of a lineage which takes in Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Bronzino’s Venus, the paintings are partly therapeutic for Instone, who has aimed to create immersive art in a burgeoning career which has already seen her collaborate with everyone from the House of Commons and the Royal Society of Art to Annie Lennox and Mick Jagger.
The title itself, from Yeats’ ode The Song of Wandering Aengus, alludes to the timeless portrayal of the elusive female muse.
- The Cob Gallery, Royal College Street, London. Open Wednesday-Saturday 12pm-6pm (or by appointment). Admission free. Follow the gallery on Twitter @thecobgallery.
