Within This Wooden O conjures the time of the Bard at Shakespeare's Globe

Artist Rosalind Lyons Hudson is known for emulating the style and feel of the Renaissance period, and of Shakespearean drama and the fundamental relationship between painting and theatre.

This singular vision is now on display at Shakespeare's Globe, where the former artist in residence is bringing Shakespearean actors and characters to life through a series of evocative paintings.

Within This Wooden O showcases an exclusive collection which also explores themes of ambiguity and transformation and evokes the evolution of theatre throughout the ages.

During her time spent working within the Wooden O, Hudson made detailed studies and observations of actors during performance and rehearsals, as well as undertaking extensive archival research.

Renaissance, Tudor and Jacobean paintings have been of significant influence for her, yet Hudson's oil on panel works display a contemporary clarity and palette. She has exhibited widely in galleries throughout the UK, and in 2010 she worked closely with the National Trust to create a unique exhibition in Blickling Hall, Norfolk.

Her solo exhibition forms part of the Globe Exhibition and Tour, which guides visitors through the fascinating history of the famous theatre and brings the Shakespearean world to life by firing the imagination with images of what Shakespeare’s life was really like.
