Despite British summer feeling like it ended weeks ago, the changing of the clocks this weekend signals that winter is officially upon us. With Halloween just around the corner the arty community of Brighton and Hove will unite in honour of the season for the twilight spectacle that is White Night Festival.
Returning for its third year of artwork, music, digital art and performances, this year's theme of Illumination sees a programme revolving around light, enlightenment and epiphanies.
Thanks to the Arts Commission Brighton & Hove, 60 events have been crammed into the all-night cultural celebration across different venues across the city – leaving visitors in definite need of that extra hour.

Komedia Studio Bar will be holding lessons in knitting with their all night Knit Lit marathon for vintage fans. The Kabinets of Wonder will see showmen in bright costumes take to the streets and squares for impromptu life drawing sessions.
White Night's sister festival is Nuit Blanche, in Amiens in France, so the Pavilion Theatre will hold Musique de la Nuit Blanche in its honour, where contemporary bands, musicians and DJs from the French city will play. The Pavilion's café bar will transform into La Trombone Noir, serving French food, drink and conversation.

East Street will become "Eat Street" with a hot food market offering everything from world cuisine to Sussex produce, and a Midnight Half Marathon will raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. Participants can run through the colours and noise of a Saturday night in the city, head to the surrounding countryside of the Sussex Downs or run a 5k Dawn Dash.
