When model Abbey Clancy, broadcaster Vanessa Feltz and designer Julien Macdonald take to the televisual floorboards for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday, they will be following in the not-always-certain footsteps of stars whose dresses are currently featuring in a shimmering display of high fashion.

Denise Van Outen – a finalist last year – twirled in a full-length scarlet dress which is now a temporary resident of Woburn Abbey, where curators are lauding it as “stunning”.

It’s in sparkling company – a Union Flag dress was worn by Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton, and Flavia Cacace’s Charleston dress became a style icon during the show, which only had its peak figure of 14.3 million viewers eclipsed by The Olympics, the Euro 2012 football tournament and the Diamond Jubliee Concert.

“We hope the combination of stunning dresses and Woburn Abbey’s classic art and architecture will score the exhibition a perfect ten,” quips Jonathan Irby, the General Manager of the abbey, discussing designer Vicky Gill’s loans.

“This is the largest and most comprehensive collection of dresses from Strictly Come Dancing that has ever gone on display and Woburn Abbey is extremely proud to host the exhibition.”

The 12 dresses are spread throughout the house.

  • Strictly Dancing Dresses is at Woburn Abbey until September 29 2013.
