Situated in Bath the museum has a well illustrated Website. The virtual tour leads you through a selection of the costumes arranged to show the development of fashionable costume. Beginning with the museum's earliest complete costume, a silver tissue dress from the 1660s, the tour takes you past 18th century mens coats, one of the simple white evening dresses that would have been worn by Jane Austen heroines about 1804, and up to a mini dress from the 1960s.There is also information on the current exhibition, Women of Style which looks at the personal wardrobes of 6 society women. If you have a more academic interest in costume there is information on the Fashion Research Centre and the beginnings of an illustrated collections inventory. At the same site you can take a look at the grand Assembly Rooms which house the museum, and which have recently been restored to their full 18th century appearance. In addition there are links to the Roman Baths and Pump Room and the Victoria Art Gallery, where you can have a look at some of the paintings and objects in close up.
