Five new dresses have joined the collection at the Fashion Museum in Bath as part of the Dress of the Year scheme that has been running for more than 40 years
The scheme, which began in 1963, features work by some of the greatest names in fashion including Mary Quant, Jean Muir, John Galliano and Versace.
Grazia style director and TV fashion pundit Paula Reed made the choices for 2008. In a Dress of the Year first, she has chosen two specially-linked outfits to add to the 50 plus piece collection.

She chose a navy blue and gold star trouser suit ensemble by Karl Lagerfeld (for Chanel, worn by Kate Moss for her 34th birthday party in 2008) and a button through polka dot dress with 1940s or 1970s shoulder pads by Kate Moss for Topshop.
"I have nominated these pieces in an effort to sum up the best of 2008 in all its mad, memorable, and eclectic brilliance," he blustered. "2008 is likely to be seen as a watershed moment; the end of a glittering party, when we consumed, celebrated and indulged ourselves like we were guests at a table groaning with good things that would never end. Circumstances now demand that we are wiser."

Fashion writer Hywel Davies chose a Giles Troubadour dress teamed with Gina shoes, decorated with dark green and black curled cock feathers. The orange double Duchesse silk satin dress has a huge orange scarf made of roving yarn and stitched with huge knitting needles, similar to broomsticks.
"The Giles dress was a beacon for edgy and contemporary fashion in 2007. The whole look encapsulated Giles directional use of layering and experimentation with silhouette and proportion," said Hywel. "The oversized knit wrap was also highly influential and fuelled a medley of copycat incarnations."

The Dress of the Year for 2006 is Prada-chosen www.style.com catwalk reporter Sarah Mower. The outfit comprises an olive green urban-style coat with fur pockets, worn with sensational platform stack brown leather shoes.
Lucinda Chambers, Fashion director of Vogue, chose a bohemian-style outfit from Marni for the Dress of the Year 2003 in a combination of print, colour and utilitarian.

"We have five fantastic new Dresses of the Year to show to visitors this summer, and we are thrilled with every single one," said Fashion Museum Director Rosemary Harden, calling it "fashion heaven."
