The winners of the British Design Awards have been announced with a folding electrical plug winning this year’s British design Oscars at the Design Museum in London.

Designed by British student Min-Kyu Choi, the plug beat off stiff competition from over 90 international nominees and the seven other category winners as the most compelling and progressive design of the last 12 months.

Min-Kyu Choi’s inspiration came after carrying around his super thin Mac book and the ungainly adaptor that came with it – he has created a far more streamlined plug that is far easier to transport.

The plug first went on show in the Royal College of Arts Graduate Show in 2009 where it was met with great critical acclaim for being a seemingly obvious improvement on a design that has changed since its inception in 1946.
