More than 100 exhibitions workshops, talks, music theatre and tours will be taking place across Glasgow for Mackintosh 100 as the city prepares to celebrate the centenary of the Glasgow School of Art.

The event has been organised by Homecoming Scotland as part of their year-long celebration of Scottish culture, and Mackintosh 100 will focus on the life and artistic legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries.

The eight-month long series of events will offer visitors to the city a wide range of experiences and ways to discover more about Mackintosh.

A Mackintosh Experience bus tour will run between May 30 and September 30 2009, giving visitors the chance to discover some architectural and design gems. The hop-on, hop-off bus service will take in The Glasgow School of Art, The Lighthouse and Kelvingrove Art Gallery amongst others on its tour of the city.

For younger visitors, special Mack Pack tours will be taking place at the Glasgow School of Art, giving 7-14-year-olds a taste of what it is like to be a student at GSA.

They will also have the chance to produce pieces of work experimenting with techniques used by Mackintosh and his peers.

Other highlights in Mackintosh 100 include the Mackintosh Church at Queen's Cross, marking its 110th year with an exhibition, and a city-wide birthday party will take place in June to celebrate Mackintosh’s 141st birthday.
