Exhibition Preview: Christmas Present, Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead, until December 22 2012

Now an annual fixture at the Shipley, this meeting of local crafts designers is the antidote to generic presents and tacky cards.

“We’re looking forward to showcasing high quality, original artwork once again,” says Julie Milne, the Chief Curator of Art Galleries for Tyne and Wear Museums.

“We’ve got a range of prominent makers from across the UK – it’s an established highlight in the Shipley’s calendar and is always popular with visitors.”

Creations include Lake District-inspired jewellery in organic forms by Rachel Wojcik and Susan Kerr and textiles by long-established woven design tudio Wallace#Sewell.

  • Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm. Admission free. Follow the gallery on Twitter @theshipley.
