Exhibition: Inside Art: Creative Responses to the Collection by Young Offenders, National Gallery Learning Gallery, London, February 8 – April 25 2010
The National Gallery will be showcasing 55 pieces of artwork produced by young men at Feltham Young Offenders Institution as part of their Inside Art outreach programme.
During the year-long project, 36 young men produced pieces of art using works from the National Gallery as their starting point and inspiration.
Those who attended were sentenced, on remand or awaiting trial and were in situations of stress and uncertainty, using art as a way to express themselves.

"Inside Art aims to engage young offenders in responding to the Gallery's collection of Western European paintings, and to inspire them to explore their creativity and develop their practical and communication skills," said National Gallery Outreach Officer Emma Rehm.
"The paintings in the Gallery belong to the nation and this programme is one way of ensuring access to the collection for a wider audience."
Inside Art has been funded by the Lankelly Chase foundation for three years, running until 2009-2011. During this time the National Gallery will run four projects each year with Feltham Young Offenders Institution.
