Picture special: Lumiere festival, Durham

In the tradition of the greatest European festivals of light, and on a scale never before seen in the UK, more than 50 leading British and international artists and performers are setting Durham ablaze with their installations and performances this weekend.

Lumiere is the latest project produced by Artichoke, the pioneering organisation behind One and Other, La Machine and The Sultan's Elephant, with audience movement altering the colours, sounds and movement of the installations.
