Salthouse 09 from the North Norfolk Exhibition Project is an exhibition of contemporary art set in the historic setting of Salthouse Church, a Grade I listed building looking out over the North Norfolk marshes and coastline.
More than 50 artists with a Norfolk collection have contributed site-specific ceramics, film, painting, printmaking, textiles and sculpture inspired by the history of Salthouse village.

"Salthouse 09 will provide an exciting opportunity to see the wealth of artistic creativity in Norfolk presented in a beautiful historic setting, said curator Simon Martin. "I am delighted that the artists have responded so imaginatively to the theme of slat of the earth promising a thought provoking visual feast for our visitors."
Highlights of the exhibition include a North Sea painting by legendary bohemian Maggie Hambling, a major new sculptural installation by Ana Maria Pacheo, who was Associate Artist at the National Gallery, and a spectacular sculpture of a salt crystal encrusted wire boat that will be suspended above the nave of the church.
The exhibition explores how salt has shaped civilisation and its central place in world history, revealing how it is not just a mineral or a flavouring commodity but an important commodity and a political tool.
