Get your red and green 3D glasses at the ready for the winners of this year’s Liverpool Art Prize, AL and AL. The collaborative duo were awarded the £2000 prize at an awards ceremony last night (Wednesday April 23 2009).

AL and AL’s award winning work includes ‘I want to run in my mountains’, a stereographic 3D video installation of a figure running through showers of pink triangles – the Nazi symbol for homosexuality. It was originally commissioned for an exhibition in Mechlen, the Belgian city where trains bound for Auschwitz departed.

Also on offer was the £1000 People's Prize, voted for by visitors who viewed the work of the six shortlisted artists on display at the gallery at Novas Contemporary Urban Centre. The winner, Elizabeth Willow, uses found objects and materials in atmospheric site-specific creations.

This is the second year of the annual prize, which was set up in 2008 by artinliverpool.com.

Director Ian Jackson said, “The judges found AL and AL’s works very well executed and engaging, it is work that people keep returning to and encourages debate. Elizabeth’s work is particularly popular amongst visitors of all ages who find her delicate and beautifully constructed installation enchanting and engaging on an emotional level.”

The exhibition runs until May 4 2009.
