Anticipation surrounding the £100,000 Art Fund Prize is heating up as its judging panel travels the country to experience the 10 long-listed museums and galleries for themselves.
Yesterday (March 18) six judges visited The National Museum of Scotland to take in its entry, Scotland: A Changing Nation. They are searching for the museum or gallery whose project demonstrates the most “originality, imagination and excellence”, to award it with the coveted title Museum of the Year.
Among the attendees were Lord David Puttnam, the award winning filmmaker and educationalist, as well as Robert Crawford, former Director General of the Imperial War Museum and Sally Osman, communications consultant and former Director of Communications at the BBC.
Dr Gordon Rintoul, Director, National Museums Scotland, said: “The gallery has been hugely popular with our visitors and the many personal stories spread throughout have captured the imagination of people young and old. We feel confident that it has also captured the attention of the judges, and shall be campaigning hard over the next few months to secure the top prize.”
A shortlist of four contenders will be announced in early May.
Culture 24 continues its Art Fund Prize coverage next week with a series of exclusive features from the 10 long-listed museums and galleries on the longlist who will explain just why they deserve to win the UK’s single largest art prize.
