The shortlist for the fifth annual £25,000 Jerwood Sculpture Prize was announced on November 28, 2008.
The nominees are Thomas Cox-Bisham 'Untitled,' James Capper 'Chimera,' Susan Forsyth 'Folia,' Alex Frost 'Rice Dream,' Marielle Hog and Alan Goulbourne 'Beehive,' Will Nash 'Ragley Sphere,' Michael Visocchi 'Yield,' David Worthington 'Close Encounter.'
“We were thrilled with the response to the call for entries, which has grown significantly from the last commission demonstrating that there is a huge demand for opportunities for outdoor sculpture commissions for emerging artists,” commented Roanne Dods, Director of the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
Entries for this year’s prize include a manually turning Marble sculpture called close encounters by David Worthington and Rice Dreams a giant mosaic of a carton of rice.

The Jerwood Foundation was formed to offer funding to in all areas of human endeavour and excellence with a particular emphasis on the arts.
The first four scuptural commissions by the foundation are on display at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire home to the Marques and Marchioness of Hertford.
The winning sculpture will be unveiled in 2010 at Ragley Hall at the Jerwood Sculpture Park.
Maquettes of the eight short listed proposals will be on exhibition in the Jerwood Space, Union Street, London SE1, from 4 March to 9 April 2009, open 10am – 5pm weekdays and 10am – 3pm weekends, and the winner of the £25,000 commission will be announced on 24th March 2009.
