Inspired by William Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress, Grayson Perry’s critically-acclaimed set of six vibrant tapestries interweaves characters, incidents and objects encountered on explorations through Sunderland, Tunbridge Wells and The Cotswolds for the television series, All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry.

The television programmes were first aired on Channel 4 in June 2012,  and the collection probes into the emotional investments behind class and taste and how deep in character they run.

Delving into class journeys and the interlinks between the things we choose to live with, wear, eat, read, drive and the social class in which we grow up, the collection provides a fascinating examination of modern day society.

Alongside the tour, the Arts Council Collection has launched an app for iPad and iPhone featuring commentary from the artist, historical references, a guide to the making of the project and a close up view of the tapestries.

  • Open 10am-5pm (9pm Thursday). Admission free. Continues to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (February 14 – May 11 2014); Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (May 23 – August 10); Temple Newsam House, Leeds, late August – October
