
The Herbert Art Gallery is already holding a major exhibition to celebrate the career of local Turner Prize finalist George Shaw, but it will also throw a party to coincide with the announcement of the winner tonight

Shaw's down-to-earth paintings of the city he grew up in have seen him touted as the people's choice, but he is up against three finalists who would undoubtedly be worthy winners: Video artist Hillary Lloyd and sculptors Karla Black and Martin Boyce

Shaw was the proud guest of honour at the launch of the exhibition of his past and present, I woz ere. He has spent 15 years making Humbrol enamel paintings of the Tile Hill housing estate he knew as a child

The Herbert will have a live link to the ceremony via Channel 4, and the local art scene will also be out in force for Pecha Kucha sessions and a series of events in the bar
