HMS M.33 Opens: The Theatre of Gallipoli

  • 6 August 2015 1-4pm

To commemorate the opening of HMS M.33, the sole remaining Royal Navy ship from the First World War’s Gallipoli campaign; Portsmouth based events companies, Big Adventures and Splodge Designs present ‘Theatre of Gallipoli’ with internationally acclaimed dance company Motionhouse who will perform alongside the historic ship on Thursday 6 August from 1pm.

Theatre of Gallipoli will take visitors through the opening events of the bloody, and for the Allies, disastrous campaign of Gallipoli. This journey of immersive theatre will explore the role that HMS M.33 played in the conflict through a fast paced and moving piece of street theatre , a drama piece on board HMS M.33 and a physical theatre and dance piece which incorporates Motionhouse’s amazing show ‘ Cascade’ re-imagined for The Theatre of Gallipoli.

The event features an array of local arts organisations such as Cop the Needle, Groundlings Theatre Company, Abstract Dance as well as workshop activity participants commissioned by The National Museum of The Royal Navy.
