The National Football Museum opened in February 2001. It is the first of its kind in the world, bringing the whole history of the game to life in five galleries within the stands at Deepdale Stadium. The striking entrance building incorporates several football references. The Museum is multi-sensory and accessible to all. Social history features strongly alongside football. The Museum has the finest collection of football memorabilia in the world, with over 20 000 objects. The FIFA Museum Collection, put together by the late Harry Langton, is the centrepiece and especially strong in the period 1870-1940. It includes a shirt and cap from the first ever international match in 1872. There are also collections from the Football Association, Football League, Wembley Stadium (including the 'Geoff Hurst' crossbar from the 1966 World Cup Final) and Preston North End.
