The Great Tower is now open after extensive renovation, including new floors and a roof which has made the building more accessible to visitors. The Tower contains a model of the original castle circa 1300, and interpretation panels tracing its history to the present day. - 13 September 2014
Scheduled ancient monument. Important discoveries made during major conservation work in 2003 include the fact that the tower was originally lower in height. Following these developments, the first floor reception chamber has been re-floored and roofed for the first time in centuries, allowing a permanent exhibition display inside. The tower may be the only surviving building by King Stephen (1135-1154).
Please refer to the Heritage Open Days website for booking details and timings.
