Black Tudors: Africans in Renaissance England

Explore the lives of over 300 Africans living in Tudor England, including John Blanke, Henry VIII's black trumpeter, Resonable Blackman the silk weaver, and Mary Phyllis, a Moroccan basket-weaver's daughter.

Dr Miranda Kaufmann will talk about her research and explain how they arrived here, what occupations and relationships they had and how they were treated by the church, the law courts and the other inhabitants.
