Treasure House
The Treasure House is an exciting new development in the provision of heritage services. For the first time, enthusiasts for East Riding history will be able to access under one roof a wide range of locally relevant archive, library, art gallery and museum material.
The Treasure House's state-of-the-art stores hold the collections of the East Riding Archives, Beverley Local Studies Library, Beverley Art Gallery, Beverley Guildhall and the Archaeology of the East Riding Museums Service. Visitors will be able to view documents, books, pictures, and historical objects from these collections in the ground floor Research Room. Staff are on hand to help with enquiries.
The first floor of the Treasure House, known as the Champney Galleries, is devoted to the interpretation and celebration of East Riding heritage. The "Treasures of the East Riding" permanent display offers an introduction to the history of the area and allows visitors to view highlights from the combined collections. A case has been set aside for the display of important objects on loan from national and regional heritage organisations.
From the first floor of the Treasure House a corridor links to the Edwardian Beverley Art Gallery which puts on temporary displays celebrating East Riding art as well as displaying national touring exhibitions. Notable features of the art gallery collection include the works of the Beverley born, Royal Academician, Fred Elwell, and of his wife, Mary Elwell.
