The Archives and Local Studies Service holds over 700 archive collections in its secure and environmentally controlled strong rooms. We currently have over 4000 boxes of Archives, which would fill over 8 double decker buses.
The archival documents cover the history of the whole of Rotherham Borough from 1328 to the present day. The archival documents that we hold come in all shapes and sizes, from files of paper and parchment title deeds to large volumes and maps and plans that fill a whole wall.
Whether you are interested in the history of your village or neighbourhood, a particular industry or your own family, we have original material which will help you understand something of Rotherham’s past.

Rotherham Archives & Local Studies is now located within Clifton Park Museum which was built in 1783 for the Walker family. There is a cafe and gift shop on site. A pay and display car park is available, with additional parking nearby.
