The Arts Gallery is University of the Arts London's flagship arts venue. A cutting-edge gallery in the heart of Museum Mile on High Holborn, the Arts Gallery features the very best of the next generation of creative talent from Europe’s largest arts institution. The gallery is the new must-know venue for the creative cognoscenti. Serving as a launch pad for the most exceptional fine art and design talent, the programme showcases the ones-to-watch in the critical first five years of their career.
Previously located at University of the Arts London’s headquarters in the West End, the gallery played host to hundreds of artists including Peter Doig, Gavin Turk, Sarah Lucas, Alex Hoda, Chris Ofili, Peter Blake, Debbie Lawson, Dexter Dalwood, John Keane, Clunie Reid, Poppy de Villeneuve, Annie Kevans, Tom Hunter, Andrew Grassie, Lisa Milroy and Martin Creed, alongside emerging artists fresh from University of the Arts London’s Colleges.
The gallery is fast building a reputation as a dynamic space championing the best new art and design talent in the UK and the programme has been described by the Evening Standard as “good for discovering promising artists”, and by AnOther Magazine as “a pioneer, championing contemporary art for some time”. Cult events site Spoonfed say “the focus is very much on the cutting edge of new artistic talent and the high quality of the work means that the gallery is frequented by some major collectors. The Arts Gallery is a great place to check out artists that nobody else has heard of (yet) and then you can impress everybody with your in-depth art knowledge.”
The gallery programme comprises five major exhibitions a year, rotating solo and group shows, featuring the creatives set to be the future of art and design from across the creative spectrum. Each summer, the Arts Gallery will play host to the ground breaking Encore series, inviting an established practitioner to celebrate the contribution they have made to their discipline, with either a site-specific commission or a retrospective show. In an effort to stay responsive to current practices, the Arts Gallery will also offer a unique one day performance and digital arts series, entitled A Limited Engagement, interspersed between exhibitions.
The focus on ones-to-watch at the beginning of their career means the gallery is a regular haunt for art and design collectors.
