Key Stage 1 Parks for people and animals

This activity will help introduce KS1 children to park environments. They are cross-curricular, offering learning in art, science, history, geography and citizenship, many underpinning the development and application of literacy and numeracy skills. Key Stage 2 Respecting parks as public property

This activity supports the teaching of the QCA Citizenship Unit 9 'Respect for property' in which children learn about their responsibility to respect shared or public property.
Children work in groups to formulate plans for the improvement of their local park (or a nearby park that you have identified). They visit the park to assess its current facilities and devise ways of consulting with the local community and visitors to the park about suggesting improvements.

Key Stage 3 Designing a new playground

This activity supports learning in design and technology, with strong links to art and design. It asks students to develop, plan and communicate ideas and use knowledge and understanding of materials and components to design and make models of fixed play equipment for a local park. This equipment could be aimed at toddlers, young children or teenagers and could be themed in order to promote awareness of the natural or built elements in the park. This is a dynamic and engaging role-play activity that aims to increase young people's appreciation of public parks and the issues surrounding their protection, funding and management.
