We are a small organisation set up to help London authorities achieve and maintain well designed places. We mainly work with Councillors and officers in London's 33 local authorities an the Mayor's organisations including Transport for London and the London Development Agency. We are a not for profit outfit funded by Boroughs, TfL, LDA and CABE.
Because we work with practitioners we get a good idea about what really happens in planning and highway departments. So if you want an insight into the real world for built environment professionals you might find us useful.
UDL runs lots of training - around 40 separate events a year. Some are masterclasses or workshops looking at specific issues like how to design homes for families at higher densities, some are introduction level courses and some are site visits. The site visits are informal and open to all. We normally invite along someone who has been closely involved in the project to give us a tour - it can be a great way to find out about the small, but very important decisions that need to be taken to make great places.
You can find information about all our events, watch videos of past sessions and book places, through our website.
LEARNING SPACE is our on line teaching resource. It is being tested at the moment but you can still use it, available on our website. LEARNING SPACE includes information, games, quizzes, pictures and stories to help people learn about urban design. It offers a fun introduction to the subject.
